Common Questions

About Couples Counseling

Do both partners need to attend every session?

Ideally yes — couples sessions are most effective when both partners participate. However, Ann can discuss your specific situation during the free consultation to determine the best approach for your relationship.

Is couples counseling only for marriages in crisis?

Not at all. Many couples seek counseling proactively to strengthen communication, prepare for major life changes, or deepen their connection before problems escalate. It's a sign of strength, not failure.

What's the difference between couples counseling and premarital counseling?

Couples counseling is for partners at any stage of a committed relationship working through current challenges. Premarital counseling (using the SYMBIS Assessment) is specifically designed for engaged couples preparing for marriage.

How long does couples counseling typically take?

It varies based on the complexity of the issues and your goals. Many couples see meaningful progress in 8–12 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. Ann will help you set realistic expectations from the start.
